A safer workflow

3Use Google Scholar as a supplementary tool to check whether important papers, recent items, preprints, institutional pages, or full-text variants were missed by the database search.
4Track backward and forward citations from key papers, add relevant records to your reference manager, deduplicate them, and record where each additional item came from.
Watch-outs
Do not treat Google Scholar results as a fully reproducible database search; rankings and result counts can change and are difficult to document precisely.
Avoid adding limits, filters, or search terms only because they reduce the number of results; each restriction should match the research question and eligibility criteria.
